DiBi | Skinny Ties for a Cause

by Caleb on August 5, 2011

DiBi Foundation Ties

While recently perusing through Isle of Man, one of my favorite stores in Chicago, I happened upon a collection of chambray skinny ties that caught my eye. Not only were these ties stylish, but the sign next to them said they benefited the DiBi Foundation. Seeing as how I tend to like products for a cause, naturally I went home and looked it up.

The DiBi Foundation (don’t judge them by their poor website) was founded by Chicagoan Daniel Bruce, and a portion of the proceeds from DiBi Ties go to helping provide teaching kits to rural communities around the world. That’s just a win-win for everyone.

I’m definitely planning on picking one of these up soon. These are going to be great with fall around the corner. You can shop their selection of ties online at KarmaLoop, or see the list of retailers on their site, which of course includes Isle of Man, as well as some other Chicago staples such as Belmont Army Surplus and Riley.

I know this shelf from Finnish design firm Kayiwa isn’t in the least bit functional. But come on – you’ve got to admit that it’s pretty cool. Especially for typography nerds. But before you go thinking you’ll run out and get one, I feel obligated to let you know that one of these babies will [...]

Recent Desirables

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve spent less and less time in this space talking about products. There are two reasons for that. One is because I realized there are other blogs doing it better than I am. And two is because I don’t want to anymore. I’d rather spend my time talking about intangibles than [...]

As requested, here are my ‘Wants’ for this Christmas season. These are all items that have caught my eye in recent months that I have not previously mentioned here. Let’s start with the new line of shirts at Hamilton, America’s oldest family-owned shirt maker. Hamilton’s been making high quality custom made shirts in Houston for [...]

Sometimes GQ is a little too on-the-nose. Take for instance this herringbone tweed vest by H&M, which may be the best Fall outerwear piece I’ve seen since J. Crew’s Denim Peacoat. With a price tag of only $49.99, what an easy way to give your Fall wardrobe a shot of cool. Don’t visit H&M’s God-awful [...]

Viero Milano Suit on The Exceptional Man, Chicago

This post originally appeared on Smile Like You Mean It. Reposted here for your enjoyment.–cg Buying a good suit is something akin to purchasing a work of art. You can no more tell a man exactly what kind of suit he should get than you can tell him exactly what he should be hanging from [...]

Denim Peacoat by Mister Freedom for J. Crew

I’m a fan of peacoats, so if someone told me that J. Crew was featuring a denim version, I admit I would be skeptical. But this sweet number from designer Mister Freedom does much to assuage my fears. Modeled after a merchant Navy sailor’s jacket and finished with historically-accurate chain-stitched embroidery, this may be one [...]
